A few weeks ago I was doing the ol' blog hop and came across a stunning post by Michella Marie.
I. fell. in. love.
She shared a beautiful tutorial on how to make paper peonies out of...can you guess it?...coffee filters!
Now I know coffee filter projects are pretty big around blog land these days, but honestly, these peonies blew me away more than anything else I've seen.
This past weekend, both my kiddies were sick and hubby was working,
so we had a very laid back day on Sunday.
Kiddies watched countless episodes of Curious George while I got out my glue gun and coffee filters...
I trimmed them down to create a size that worked for me...
A little florist tape...
...and some more filters...
Isn't that pretty?
I LOVE them!!!
I think they make such a pretty bouquet...
...I love the elegance they add to the night table...
...and the best part was having Hubs tell me that he thought they were store bought and was "shocked" (his word) to find out what they were made of. Gotta love it when that happens!!
Now.
Dontcha just want to make some for yourself?!
Head on over to Michella Marie and show her some love!
You will find her full tutorial HERE...and trust me...you will NOT be disappointed (you will need her tute to figure out how to make them)!!
Edited: I've since had several emails asking where to get the full instructions for these peonies, so here's the full link... http://www.michellamarie.com/2011/07/white-paper-peonies-tutorial.html.
Have fun!

I love those. I've seen them around blogland but yours really caught my attention. I'm so going to make them tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI dye mine with rose wine, you ca even thrown them in the dryer and they'll be ready in 5 minutes
ReplyDeletePeonies are beautiful as the natural
ReplyDeletehow many filters did you use when you were cutting it? and when did you add the stem? Can I get a little more detail directions pretty please :0 Thank you!!!
ReplyDeletenevermind I see you click somewhere else to see the tutorial. sorry
ReplyDeleteI used black pipe cleaners (for a white/black) party instead of florists wire with regular tape. I then used another pipe cleaner instead of florists tape to wrap around to hide my regular tape. This made it easier to bunch the flowers together also and saved me about $10 worth of supplies :) I also glued a crystal to the top of the pipe cleaner to jazz it up!
ReplyDeleteWhere I'd get the step by step instructions to make these beautiful peonies?
ReplyDeleteI love this, made one yesterday and my husband thought it was real for a minute. Thanks
ReplyDeletewonder if they can be colored
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, yes I believe they can. I have seen other bloggers talk about dipping the coffee filters into dyed water and then allowing them to dry out completely before using. You can also stain them in a tea or coffee solution, if you like an antiqued look. Good luck! :)
DeleteCoffee filters hold watercolor paint absolutely beautifully. Paint them after you've assembled the flowers, then hang them upside down to dry! I hang mine from coat hangers in my shower : )
DeleteI so want to make these but where the heck do I get these size coffee filters????...I have looked everywhere and I can only see the 4 to 6" ones.
ReplyDeleteThat's the right size, you just need to cut them down a bit as you're working on them. If you click on the link provided in the post, the tutorial will give you good instructions on how much to cut them down! :)
DeleteEvie, these are beautiful! I just re-did my entry way and had a poor, bare shelf that needed a little sprucing-up... so I just made these! They turned out perfectly and look beautiful displayed in a bunch of three in a short vase. There's a picture on my blog if you want to check it out: http://www.mycraftysoul.com/2012/03/coffee-filter-flowers.html
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog and have been inspired by many of your creations!! Keep 'em coming :)
Thanks for the suggestion, however, you really didn't post any specific instructions. From the picture you go from filter trimed down in size to the flower. The flower has petals that were cut out but you didn't explain how you got to that point.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Hi Rebecca, you're right...I haven't posted all the instructions in order to keep from "stealing" another blogger's tutorial. If you continue down to the bottom of my post, you will see a link to her blog and that will take you straight to her tutorial. :)
Deletecan i use cup cake cups? i hv nt seen this cofee filters in sri lanka.lol. its almost looks like cup cake cups?
ReplyDeleteHi there! Yes, I think cupcake liners would work as well...the texture will be a bit different, but the overall look should be quite similar. Good luck! :)
Deleteyou can mix up some food coloring and water put itt in a spray bottle ,.,dont get to close or they will be ruined i also have droped some food color mixture on the flower with an eye dropper its beautiful
Deletehope it works
I have a lot of ceramic paint that I have been using to make different colors of flowers and have enjoyed the results. Just put 2 or 3 drops in water or more if you want a richer color. I also dipped just the tips of the filters in a non-diluted paint and the result was beautiful. The results always fascinate me, but now I've got more flowers than I know what to do with. This is such a low cost item to make, so the results are worth it. I hope my family likes all the flowers they will be receiving. I have been going to flea markets and yard sales picking up pretty vases and making arrangements in them. Good gifts that don't cost so much.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this and so generously telling us how to get the tutorial. I am just finding you and your BEAUTIFUL site. Thanks so very much for sharing your talents. Originally found you through Pinterest.
